2025 Alberta Thoroughbred Aftercare Criteria

HBPA of Alberta is opening up the opportunity for applications involving aftercare throughout the racing community. We are asking for all current or interested organizations to submit a proposal to the HBPA of Alberta, Marketing Manager, [email protected] by deadline of April 15th, 2025 for proposals to be submitted. A decision will be made by our board before our first race day in 2025 as to whom we will partner with to continue aftercare growth in the province.

Expectations for the aftercare organization that we choose to align with will be:

-100% transparency in all information requests from the HBPA board of directors. No NDA’s will restrict the flow of information from one board to another

- Funding agreements will be discussed each year and will be presented to the winning proposal. This will have to be executed before any funds are paid

-A Non-confrontational collaborative organization willing to work with the HBPA and its members to maintain transparency

-Detailed information supplied in relation to the actual care and expenses committed to the horse while in the care of the aftercare organization

-There are to be detailed information reports shall the organization choose to offer any sort of sanctuary status. This includes rehabilitation or long term housing for horses unable to be placed in second careers

-The HBPA will be included in ALL planning and organizing meetings relating to ANY aspect of the funding and support the organization chooses to use throughout the race season. i.e. Ring The Bell, Claiming levey etc.

-All organization communication will be directed to the Executive Director and Marketing Manager of the HBPA throughout the 2025 season

Aftercare for our equine athletes is of the utmost importance. As an industry we are aware the continued love and success our athletes receive in second or even third careers is an area that needs constant growth and support by the community and its partners.
