Opening Day at Century Mile Racetrack and Casino
The 2024 Alberta thoroughbred and quarter horse racing season springs into action this Saturday, May 4, at Century Mile Racetrack and Casino, starting at 3:45 PM with a competitive line-up of eight races. Prominent jockeys Dane Nelson and Jose Asencio, who led last year’s standings, are set to compete in multiple races, heating up the early season rivalry.
The action starts with a 220-yard dash for quarter horses, setting the stage for a thrilling day. The day features key events including a $35,000 race for Alberta-bred maidens 3 years old and up. Spectators can also join us between races 3 and 4 to witness the 150th running of the 5 million dollar Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs in Louisville Kentucky. The finale is an Allowance Optional Claiming event with a hard-knocking field of 10, including last year’s Beaufort Stakes winner, HK Rapper, promising to be thriller for the night cap.
