2024 HBPA Board of Directors Election: How to Participate

2024 is an election year for the HBPA Board of Directors. We’re looking for dedicated Owners and Trainers in Alberta interested in shaping the future of horse racing. Here’s how to get involved, either by running for office or nominating a candidate.

Requirements:

 Must be an HBPA member in good standing (Licensed Owner or Trainer).
 Nominations close on April 12th, 2024.
 Nominees must sign a nomination form and provide a short bio.

Nomination Process:

Contact Linda Smith, Hazel Bennett, and Irving Devey for nomination forms and submission by April 12th, 2024. They’re in charge of collecting and managing nominations.

For Candidates:

Create a brief bio and statement covering your personal history, racing involvement, and your perspectives on improving the sport. Limit your submission to 200 words and include a headshot. 

Bio/Vision Statements Submission:

2024 Election Timeline

Nominations Close:

April 12th, 2024 Ensure all nominations are submitted by this date.

Bios/Vision Statements from Candidates:

May 10th, 2024 Candidates must send in their bios and vision statements by this deadline.

Membership List Confirmation:

May 31st, 2024 The membership list will be finalized on this date for election eligibility.

Candidate Information to Printers:

June 21st, 2024 All candidate information must be sent to printers by this date for election materials.

Mail Out to Membership:

July 5th, 2024 Members will receive the election materials on or before this date, depending on when the printers finish.

Election:

August 1st, 2024 Please ensure your ballots have been received by this date to have your voice counted

AGM (Annual General Meeting) / New Board Takes Office:

August 29th, 2024 The newly elected board members will officially take office during the AGM
